THE GLOBAL RESORT AT HOME

Thredbo is Australia's best Ski Resort 2017

There’s so much more to Thredbo than first meets the eye. Sure, you’ll be charmed by the beauty of Australian snow gums laden with mother nature’s white crystals as you drive the Alpine Way to arrive in the European style village. Yes, you’ll be itching to take the chairlift to the top to make your turns on the dominant run you can see with the naked eye, the country’s longest ski run, the Super Trail (5.9kms).

But spend a little more time and you’ll start to experience what truly makes Thredbo a global resort at home for Aussies. Pull up a seat at the table of a plethora of lodges, bars and restaurants and expect to hear dulcet Austrian tones from those that helped shape the resort and still reside here today. You may even find yourself dancing in ski boots next to them at the mid mountain Kareele Hutte after a long ski in stumble out lunch worthy of any European resort or by the outside fire pit at the Mumm après lounge poolside at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel.

Then share the chairlift with Australia’s favourite Winter Olympians. Gold and silver medalist snowboarder, Torah Bright, calls Thredbo her home mountain and skier Cross Olympian, Scott Kneller, regularly enters the famed Top to Bottom race at Thredbo in August every year.

Ski hard and party harder with a rocking free event calendar featuring Australia’s biggest and best bands and DJs from Client Liaison to The Rubens, Montaigne and The Preachers who have all moved the mountain. Choose from the poolside Corona Sunset live music events and the Heineken Saturday village square concert series under a pumping night alpine sky.

Kids aren’t left behind, either. Thredboland is a rite of passage for Australia’s skiing and snowboarding kids who descend upon Friday Flat each day to make new friends and skills on and off the snow.

There is little wonder that Thredbo was the natural choice for a home grown resort on the international Mountain Collective pass, giving Thredbo season pass holders access to 15 global resorts including iconic Aspen Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Telluride and Sun Valley.

But wait, with Thredbo there is always more. The resort has been recognized internationally with the World Ski Awards Best Australian Resort and at home by the Ski Industry of Australia’s Best Australian Resort 2017. Add media awards from Out and About with Kids and the Luxury Travel magazine’s Best Australian Ski Resort gold list.

We haven’t even got to the skiing, and we should. Over 480 hectares of classic Australian tree lined and open bowl terrain serves up 672 metres of thigh burning vertical with terrain for every style and skill of skier or boarder including five terrain parks. A quarter of the mountain is covered in world class snow making equipment to give mother nature that helping hand in keeping  the slopes in top condition.

Add easy access side and backcountry terrain and the stunning Dead Horse Gap side country run from open alpine through powder trees down to a running creek and the chance of wild brumby spotting.

So Thredbo.
