About Mt Ruapehu
How often do you get to say you’ve skied on a semi-active Volcano? At Mt Ruapehu you can! Mt Ruapehu is the largest semi-active volcano in the Tongariro National Park with a choice of two ski areas – Whakapapa and Turoa on the one pass.
Situated in the North Island, only a 4 hour drive from Auckland and Wellington and 2 hours from Rotorua, Mt Ruapehu is the only ski resort in the North Island. For accommodation you can either base yourself in Ohakune or Whakapapa. Ohakune has a great nightlife with a range of bars & restaurants, while Whakapapa village offers a quieter environment and majestic views of the World Heritage Park.
The iconic Lake Taupo is located just an hour from Whakapapa and offers a wide range of adventure activities including jet boating, sky diving, cruises and thermal parks. Lake Taupo makes a great day trip if your tired legs need a rest.
