NOZAWA ONSEN
About Nozawa Onsen
Nozawa Onsen is a charming village that is famous for amazing mountain terrain as well as its abundance of hot springs (onsens), and trust us when we say that both are a must do!
Nozawa Onsen is ranked as one of the best ski resorts in Japan, with a wide selection of runs offering great skiing and snowboarding experiences for beginners’ right through to the most advanced. Limited in-bounds off-piste skiing is available, the resort also leaves much of the advanced areas ungroomed to allow for plenty of powder fun!
The Village itself has a real sense of tradition with beautiful old streets and onsens scattered throughout the town. The Nozawa Onsen fire festival in January is famous throughout Japan, although make sure you book well in advance if you hope to experience it yourself!
Accommodation
Most of the accommodation options in Nozawa Onsen provide easy access to the lifts and private onsens for a well-earned soak after a day on the slopes. Traditional ryokan (Japanese guesthouses) are common with more modern hotel-style options also available.

How to get there
Fly
The best airport to access Nozawa Onsen is either Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND) in Tokyo. Direct flights are available from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The direct flight from Sydney arrives into Haneda airport, whereas any direct flight from Melbourne or Brisbane arrives into Narita airport. Flight time to Tokyo is approximately 10 hours.
The city of Tokyo makes a great stopover destination; it’s a place full of culture and history while still offering an unlimited amount of shopping, dining and entertainment options. We recommend 3 days to enjoy all this city has to offer.
